Something Very Important to Talk About

Hello, everyone! I’m so glad to see you here because I have something very important to discuss with you. I know many of you sitting here and watching from home have something you genuinely want to achieve in life, but you keep struggling to follow through on your plans.

Something Very Important for You

Perhaps you want to improve your health, fitness, mental wellness, finances, or relationships. Maybe you want to grow your business, advance your career, or become a happier and more confident person. Whatever your goal may be, you keep losing momentum before you reach it.

Today, we’re going to change that. I want to share a few practical strategies that can help you make real progress toward the things that matter most to you.

I Surveyed 1,000 People

Last year, I conducted research and surveyed 1,000 people across the United States. Every participant wanted to change something important in their life.

At the beginning of the year, they made ambitious promises to themselves. They planned to exercise more, save money, increase their income, grow their businesses, improve their relationships, and become happier and more confident.

Everyone seemed excited about making positive changes. However, I wanted to discover whether they would maintain that motivation over time.

What I Found Out Made My Jaw Drop

I followed these 1,000 people from January through June to see how well they maintained their goals.

The results surprised me. By February, 94 out of every 100 participants had already abandoned the commitments they made at the beginning of the year, according to the survey results presented here.

Only a small percentage continued working toward their goals.

The Secrets of the Six Percenters

Today, I want to explain what separates these six percenters from the other 94 percent. What did they do differently to achieve the happiness, confidence, success, financial progress, business growth, and stronger relationships they wanted?

I have identified three important strategies that can help you approach your goals differently. These strategies can help you take control of your actions, build better habits, and make meaningful progress.

The First Secret: Take Charge of Your Life

The first thing the six percenters do differently is take responsibility for their choices. They make a conscious decision to change their behavior instead of repeating the same patterns every day.

Your brain uses a significant amount of your body’s energy to keep you functioning. It also develops familiar patterns that help you complete routine activities without constantly making new decisions.

Think About Your Day Today

Think about your typical day. You wake up, check social media, read the news, answer emails, talk to people, eat your usual breakfast, and follow your regular lunch routine. You may go to the gym, skip your workout, and interact with people in familiar ways.

You repeat many of these activities because you already know how to perform them. Familiar routines require less conscious effort than unfamiliar tasks.

However, when you decide to change your habits, you ask your brain to learn new behaviors and adjust to different routines.

Your Brain Resists Change

When you introduce a new technology, change your workout routine, try a different business strategy, or develop new ways to manage your mental wellness, you challenge your brain’s familiar patterns.

Your brain often prefers familiar activities because they require less effort and attention. As a result, you may feel uncomfortable when you try something new.

That discomfort can tempt you to return to your old habits, even when those habits prevent you from achieving your goals.

Are You Accepting the Deal?

Every day, you face a choice between staying comfortable and making progress.

Your brain may encourage you to repeat familiar behaviors because they feel easier. You might want to improve your happiness, achieve success, and create the life you dream about, but your daily routines can keep you stuck.

You can continue following the same patterns and conserve effort, or you can challenge yourself to take different actions.

The first option may feel comfortable, but it can also keep you from making meaningful changes. The second option requires effort, consistency, and a willingness to experience discomfort.

The 94 percenters, as described in this presentation, accept the familiar routine without examining its consequences. The six percenters make a deliberate choice to change their behavior and pursue their goals.

The Second Secret: Use the Law of Specification

The second strategy involves what I call the Law of Specification.

This principle emphasizes the importance of setting clear, specific goals and creating detailed plans to achieve them. When you define exactly what you want to accomplish, when you will do it, and how you will follow through, you give yourself a clearer path toward success.

Vague intentions make it easy to postpone action. Specific plans help you turn those intentions into daily behaviors.

Let’s Use Going to the Gym as an Example

Imagine that you want to improve your fitness.

The 94 percenters might say, “I’m going to the gym more often this year. I’m going to get fit and become healthier.”

Although this goal sounds positive, it does not explain when they will exercise, what workout they will follow, or how they will maintain consistency.

The six percenters take a more specific approach. They decide to visit the gym at a particular time, follow a planned workout routine, and prepare themselves in advance.

For example, they might schedule their workout between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM and set an alarm 30 minutes earlier to give themselves enough time to get ready.

Create an Accountability Plan

The six percenters also remove obstacles before those obstacles interfere with their plans.

They place their gym clothes beside their bed, set reminders on their devices, and ask an accountability partner to help them stay consistent.

They can also establish a reasonable backup plan for days when unexpected circumstances prevent them from exercising.

For example, they might schedule another workout for the following day when they miss a session. Instead of abandoning their fitness goal after one setback, they return to their routine as soon as possible.

These specific actions make it easier to follow through on their intentions.

Specific Goals Improve Your Chances of Success

The more clearly you define your goals and plan your actions, the easier it becomes to measure your progress.

Instead of relying on motivation alone, you create a routine that guides your behavior. You know what you need to do, when you need to do it, and how you will respond when challenges arise.

The Law of Specification helps you replace vague promises with practical actions that support consistent progress.

The Third Secret: Use the 0 to 10 Rule

The third strategy involves what I call the 0 to 10 Rule.

Many people live in a culture that celebrates busyness. They often describe their packed schedules as proof of their importance, productivity, or success.

However, staying busy does not automatically mean that you are making progress toward your most important goals.

Stop Saying, “I’m So Busy”

Ask someone how they are doing, and they might immediately respond, “I’m so busy! I’ve been running around all day, and I haven’t even had lunch.”

People sometimes treat a busy schedule as a badge of honor. However, constant activity can distract them from the work that truly matters.

The six percenters approach their time differently. Instead of trying to complete every task on their list, they identify the activities that will make the greatest difference in their lives.

Stop Trying to Do Everything

You have a limited amount of time and energy each day. You cannot complete every task, fulfill every request, and pursue every goal at once without risking exhaustion.

When you try to do everything, you may spend your entire day handling minor responsibilities while postponing the activities that could move you closer to your goals.

Some tasks have little immediate importance. You can delegate them, postpone them, or complete them another day.

Other tasks deserve your highest priority because they directly support your future, personal development, career, health, or business.

Identify the Tasks That Deserve a 10

The 0 to 10 Rule encourages you to assign priorities to your daily activities.

Tasks that score zero, one, or two have relatively low importance. You may be able to postpone or delegate them.

Tasks that score 10 represent your most important priorities. These are the activities that can make a meaningful difference in your life and move you toward the future you want.

The 94 percenters often spend their time completing small tasks and responding to distractions. They keep themselves busy but may never reach their most important goals.

The six percenters identify their highest-priority tasks and work on them first.

The Six Percenters Complete Their Most Important Tasks First

Start each day by identifying the tasks that deserve your full attention.

Ask yourself which activities will create the greatest progress toward your goals. Then, schedule those activities before allowing less important responsibilities to consume your time.

You may not complete every item on your to-do list, and that is okay. Completing a few important tasks can produce more meaningful progress than spending the entire day handling minor responsibilities.

Do not confuse constant activity with genuine achievement. Use the 0 to 10 Rule to focus on what matters most and direct your energy toward meaningful results.

Start Small to Avoid Feeling Overwhelmed

Many people feel intimidated when they decide to change their lives. At the beginning of the year, they create long lists of ambitious goals and expect themselves to transform everything at once.

However, taking on too many changes can overwhelm you and make it difficult to maintain your new routines.

Your brain needs time to adjust to unfamiliar behaviors, so you should avoid demanding too much from yourself at the beginning.

Change One Habit at a Time

You do not need to transform your entire life overnight. Choose one important goal, use the Law of Specification to create a clear plan, and practice the behavior consistently.

Focus on that single habit for 30 days before adding another major change.

For example, if you want to exercise regularly, establish a specific workout schedule and follow it consistently. Once you become more comfortable with that routine, you can introduce another positive habit.

A 30-day period can help you practice a new behavior, although the time required to develop an automatic habit varies from person to person.

Build Momentum Through Small Wins

When you focus on one habit at a time, you give yourself an opportunity to experience progress without overwhelming your schedule.

After maintaining your first habit, you may feel more confident about introducing another one. You can repeat the process and gradually develop routines that support your goals.

Instead of starting five or six new habits simultaneously, you build a stronger foundation by concentrating on one change before moving forward.

Small, consistent actions can help you create lasting improvements over time.

Think About What You Can Achieve in One Year

Imagine choosing one new habit every 30 days instead of trying to change everything at the beginning of the year.

Life will inevitably bring unexpected challenges, and you may struggle to maintain some habits. You might even abandon a couple of goals along the way.

That does not mean you have failed.

If you establish one habit each month and successfully maintain 10 of those habits throughout the year, you will still have made substantial progress.

You could develop healthier routines, improve your productivity, strengthen your relationships, and manage your time more effectively.

Now imagine repeating this process in your second and third years. Over time, these improvements can build on one another and help you create a more fulfilling life.

Becoming a Sixer Can Change Your Life

You do not need complicated strategies to begin making progress. You need a clear goal, a specific plan, and the willingness to repeat small actions consistently.

Choose one meaningful change, make it manageable, and practice it regularly. Once you establish that routine, move on to another goal.

This approach allows you to build habits gradually instead of overwhelming yourself with unrealistic expectations.

Becoming a sixer can help you approach your goals with greater clarity and consistency. You can make meaningful changes in your life when you understand how to prioritize your actions and follow through on your plans.

Use the 0 to 10 Rule to Prevent Burnout

The 0 to 10 Rule offers another important benefit: it can help you protect your energy and reduce the pressure to do everything.

When you focus on your highest-priority activities, you stop treating every task as equally urgent. You give yourself permission to postpone less important responsibilities and concentrate on the work that matters most.

Trying to do everything can leave you mentally and physically exhausted. Prioritizing your tasks helps you use your time more intentionally and create a healthier balance between productivity and rest.

You do not have to complete every task to make meaningful progress. You simply need to identify what matters most and take action.

Welcome to the 6 Club!

I believe you can become a sixer and make meaningful changes in your life.

Start by taking responsibility for your choices. Use the Law of Specification to turn vague intentions into clear, actionable plans. Apply the 0 to 10 Rule to prioritize your most important tasks.

Above all, remember that you do not need to change everything at once. Choose one meaningful goal, start small, and keep practicing until you establish a routine that supports your progress.

Take charge of your life, focus on what matters most, and keep moving toward the future you want.
